Address: xã Sủng Là, huyện Đồng Văn, tỉnh Hà Giang Xã Sủng Là, Huyện Đồng Văn, Tỉnh Hà Giang

This old house is very typical for the traditional architecture of Hmong people in Sung La valley, Sung La commune, Dong Van district. The entire house is an enclosed self-contained architectural unit composed of four connected wings surrounding a square yard in the centre. It is surrounded by a rocky fence and built with earth-compacted walls, roofed with yin-yang tiles, low wooden doors and windows. This architectural style is very adaptable to extreme weather conditions in the Dong Van UNESCO Global Geopark, and in line with Hmong traditional customs. In 1947, after becoming the richest landlord in Sung La area, mainly due to opium trading, Mr. Mua Sua Pao -a Hmong man - built this house. At present, it is owned by his grandson Mr. Mua Sinh Gia. The house was chosen as the setting for a movie entitled “The Story of Pao”, which gained the “Golden Kites Award” in 2005 by Vietnam’s Cinematography Association. In 2013, it was upgraded by Dong Van District People Committee, strictly preserving all the traditional architectural features of a Hmong house. View more
