By looking carefully at the rocks in the panel, you may find a great quantity of small white elements with oval shape. They are fossils of single-celled organisms, which were common marine inhabitants c. 345 million years ago (Carboniferous –period). They prospered throughout for nearly one hundred million years and disappeared after the global life crisis c.250 million years ago (end of Permian period). These peculiar organisms, named Fusulinids, look like small rugby balls with the size of wheat or soya-been grains. After they died, their hard calcareous shells were deposited, wellpreserved and fossilised. The presence of numerous and wellpreserved fossils makes it easy the research, classification and restoration of the past environmental conditions, in which rocks were formed.
